The city of Denver is giving away FREE mulch to residents and offering compost for sale on May 4. The hours are 8 AM to 2 PM (while supplies last). The main location for this event is near I-70 and Havana, but there are several other "dig your own" sites as well around the city. Interestingly, the mulch is made from Christmas trees picked up by the waste management department earlier this year, and the compost is made from leaves dropped off at the annual leaf drop event.
See the event webpage for more information. Need to get rid of some of that clutter in your closet? Need something special for that empty spot on the mantle? See below for information about a Wellshire East neighborhood garage sale. The deadline for registering for the garage sale has passed. Make sure to register next year!
Since there is no signage, you may not be aware that the parcel of land across the street (Eastman/Girard) to the south is a small continuation of Hutchinson Park. This is the area where, on the 4th of July, the firemen spray the children and many adults ! You may have thought it is owned by Morningside Condominiums. But no, it is City property. Therefore, Wellshire East residents may utilize this area for their pleasure. We have been in contact with Peggy Lehmann and the Parks & Rec Dept. often to request signage , walkways, etc. We are told the budget will not allow such action. Hopefully, this has been placed in the future budgeting.
In the meantime...enjoy it if you wish ! See the map below. Lois, Joyce & Marge In September 2012, Mark Kelly, a resident of Gun Club Green (a neighborhood near Hampden and Tamarac) initiated an effort to work with the new Target store to connect the bike paths of Rosamond Park to those of Huchinson & Bible Parks via the greenbelt adjacent to the store. See the document he sent to Target here: Now, more recently, Mark sent along this update to his supporters on the bike path proposed to Target: The Hentzell Park story continues as the issue works its way through City goverment. Park advocates urge mayor to keep Hentzell Natural Area intact Pictures of Hentzell Park Protesters REPORT CRIME in our area:
Police STRONGLY encourage reports of incidents regardless of the circumstances (i.e.car door left unlocked). Additional patrolling is scheduled after reviewing a weekly report showing where crime activity has taken place. KEEPING our DEVELOPMENT LOVELY on the OUTSIDE too ! : Along Monaco Parkway there is a strip of City property where our Entrance Marker is located along with a newly replanted tree. The strip runs from Girard north to the parking lot of The Church of the Risen Christ. The City is sometimes lax about picking up litter. Here's an opportunity to help in a SMALL way ! We'd like a few names of folks who will monitor the area on a rotation basis - perhaps once every two weeks - work it into your walking schedule. Contact Lois 303-758-0092 or e-mail. As it is, one of our residents, a member of the Littleton Lion's Club, empties the trash containers at the two RTD bus stops. Thank you Roy ! The Hentzell Park land swap between the city, parks, and schools is becoming a very heated topic. The below email presents the opposing viewpoint from the city's perspective in the previous post. Dear Community Leader: Hello All, FYI - thought you would like to know of this.....not far from our neighborhood ..good to see the City and schools working together.
